TEACHER BIOS
Philip Clift - BS, LMT, Atlanta School of Massage

Philip specializes in power yoga, a fitness-oriented approach to the conventional hatha yoga system. This vigorous form of yoga develops strength, flexibility, balance and a deep internal awareness through focus on breath and flowing movements between postures. Philip incorporates his knowledge of body mechanics with his specialty in deep tissue methodology to provide students with avenues for building internal strength while resolving mental and structural imbalances.

Jennifer Beyt Coffin - RYT

Hailing from Cajun country in Louisiana, Jennifer's wanderlust has taken her to many places all of which have led her down the path of Yoga. Jennifer began to teach in 2002 with business partner, Philip Clift. Together, they created Side Crow Vinyasa Yoga.

"My philiosphy is that by learning and applying principles of core strength and stability to a yoga practice, common injuries are not only avoided but the stage is set for deepening yoga postures from a place of strength and balance."

Her teachers include Sean Johnson, Philip Clift, Doug Swenson, David Swenson, Stephanie Keach, Heather Tiddens and her son, Max. She draws from Ashtanga, Iyengar & Forrest Yoga to create interesting and challenging vinyasa flow classes.

Santosh Morgan - RYT

Santosh (which means “contentment” in Sanskrit) is a Knoxville native and a certified Kripalu Yoga teacher registered with the Yoga Alliance. He has a B.A. in Religion from Middlebury College in Vermont, where he was first introduced to yoga and meditation in 1991. Not long thereafter he studied Buddhist meditation while a resident of a monastery in India. He has also volunteered for the Tibetan government-in-exile and at two of Mother Teresa's missions.

Santosh's classes focus not only on physical alignment and the breath, but also on bringing awareness to mental and emotional states, self-acceptance, healing, and "witness consciousness."

Kathy McMillan - AAAI/ISMA certified instructor

Kathy found yoga after going from being hale and hearty and running five miles a day, to a six-year downward health spiral due to Lyme's disease. Her western medicine doctor recommended yoga to cleanse her nervous system and help her heal faster. She found her mentor, Philip Clift, three years ago and has been hooked on Vinyasa yoga ever since. Besides Philip, she is learning from Jennifer Coffin, Doug Swenson, Christa Schoenbrodt and Daphne Larkin.

Kathy, a pre-vet major in college, has immersed herself in the science of yoga and how each pose cleanses the autonomic nervous system. She stresses breathing, alignment and an economy of movement, but believes that, ultimately, yoga is about self-discovery. She is also a devout Catholic, who truly believes that God made the human body to heal itself and that Vinyasa yoga is one way to cleanse and heal our internal organs and joints.
